2012 Carrodus Merlot


Made exclusively from 1969 original plantings. Plush berry fruit with ample weight and softness. Some savoury spices intermingle with the firm tannins to deliver a Merlot of power and finesse.

Aroma: Black and red fruits of morello cherry with cigar box and tobacco leaf lift.

Palate: The fruit is ripe and generous, the acid fresh and bright, the tannins Moorish and defined with a deep mocha flavoured finish.

Hand harvested and destemmed and crushed into 600kg tea chest fermenters. Hand plunged twice daily until fermentation is complete. Basket pressed for gentle tannin extraction before malolactic fermentation in 100% new French oak Bordeaux shaped barrels for 20 months. Bottled via gravity without filtration.

Season: 2012 in the Yarra Valley will go down as one of those exceptional vintages where all varieties achieved excellent quality. The resulting 2012 wines are beautifully balanced and integrated as young wines with the finesse and longevity that you’ve come to expect from this iconic vineyard.

Vines: Fruit sourced exclusively from 1969 planted Merlot.

Cellaring: Drinking beautifully at present and will evolve for a further 20 years under suitable cellaring conditions.
