Spring 2010

Spring has burst forth with some lovely warm days and that joyous explosion of new life that the end of a long cold winter brings. The pear trees are in full flower, there is a new family of ducklings on the lily pond and the vines have shot away with some vigorous early spring growth. Good rains over winter have provided a perfect platform for a good season and it's now just a matter of fingers crossed for some stable warm weather for flowering. It's hard not to be optimistic when the valley looks as beautiful as it does right now.

Significantly the opening weeks of spring are marmalade time. Dr Carrodus was very keen on his seville marmalade and this caused him to plant seven seville orange trees in his orange grove. In the first weeks of spring when the fruit was fully ripe he would pick the oranges and make his marmalade. In keeping with that tradition we have picked the oranges in the last couple of weeks and Lisa at "Jam Lady Jam" in Healesville has turned them into beautiful marmalade for us. There is quite a lot, so we are making some available to our mailing list. The specially labelled jars are $12.50 each plus postage. If you would like to purchase some of the "Yarra Yering Seville Marmalade" please place your order via phone or e-mail. Marmalade, pear blossom, ducklings and fine wine, the perfect way to welcome spring.

See you at the winery soon,

Tim Hampton
