26 Apr 2019 Warramate Wines Annual Release Weekend
Legendary in Yarra Valley wine folklore
Historically held on the first weekend in May, the annual release of the Yarra Yering new vintage wines would always draw a crowd. Join us at our home base in Gruyere, Yarra Valley on May 4th and 5th, 2019 to celebrate the release of the 2017 vintage wines and join in our 50th birthday celebrations!
You don’t turn 50 every year so we want to celebrate!
The story as told is that people would come from near and far, lining up at the back of the old house waiting for the rattling of the key. Dr Bailey Carrodus would throw the door open, wearing his tweed jacket, not a minute before the advertised 10am opening time. Desperate customers would shuffle in to sip and taste before securing their miniscule allocation of wine before it was sold offshore. There were cars up and down the drive, they spilled out onto Briarty Road and then, desperate to get their Yarra Yering bottles, onto Maddens Lane. You had to front up, this was your only chance, otherwise the gate would close and you might miss out.
These days our cellar door is open daily from 10am to 5pm (except Christmas Day) in the renovated home of Dr Carrodus. Join us and enjoy the view from his living room as you taste the beauty in the wines crafted from his vineyard.

An elegant and intensely perfumed Pinot Noir made to be enjoyed while young and bright.

Perfume and red berry notes entwine with a licorice spice element. An elegant style reflecting its’ cool climate origins, it features a succulent, lightly footed fruit layered palate replete with fine, gentle tannins.
2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
Intense varietal nose in the bounds of youthful exuberance. Shows signature blackcurrant and sarsaparilla notes well supported by integrated leafy characters, synonymous with the variety.
Vintage Report
The vineyard got off to a slow start due to late winter and early spring rain coupled with cold weather. This weather pattern carried on through spring providing tricky growing conditions right up until Autumn and the start of picking. Flowering was later than normal and over an extended period due to cold wet and windy weather.
The early varieties were affected more so than the later ones. A mild summer with rain allowed Yarra Yering’s dry grown vineyard to escape any possible heat stress, with larger than normal bunches due to the rain. But with perfect early Autumn ripening weather, vintage 2017 was another tricky but super vintage.
