03 Aug 99 Points for 2018 Carrodus Shiraz

“…the finest Australian shiraz I’ve tasted in quite a while” – Huon Hooke
It was a warmer year in 2018 but with good yields and also good vine canopies to protect the fruit from the sun. The vines were well balanced without much manipulation. It was the best shiraz vintage we’ve seen in many years.
The 2018 Carrodus Shiraz is a selection of just two barrels, and the fruit came from Dr Carrodus’s original 1969 plantings. Whereas 2018 Dry Red Wine No. 2 has 20% whole-bunch fermentation, the 2018 Carrodus Shiraz has none.
“This wine has glorious intensity and complexity, spices and red fruits galore, understated power and great persistence. The tannins are superfine. It takes me to the Northern Rhône Valley, where it would stand tall beside the best that region has to offer.” Huon Hooke, New and Noteworthy – August 2020
