A note on our wines
WE BELIEVE THAT GREAT WINE IS MADE IN THE VINEYARD
Yarra Yering is one of Australia’s most celebrated wineries with a first-rate international reputation.
Planted in 1969 by our founder, Dr Bailey Carrodus, our unirrigated vines produce elegant, complex and powerful Yarra Valley wines. Approachable as young wines, they also have the ability to develop in the bottle for many years.
Yarra Yering winemaker Sarah Crowe was recently named James Halliday’s 2017 Winemaker of the Year. After a long career in the Hunter Valley, Sarah joined Yarra Yering in 2013 to experience wine-making in the Yarra Valley.
Sarah Crowe’s philosophy:
DRINK LESS, DRINK BETTER
With Sarah at the helm, the tradition that Dr Carrodus began in 1969 when he planted the first vineyards at Yarra Yering continues.
A note on our process
Our winery is considered among the best in Yarra Valley, largely because we operate on this premise: the better the fruit quality and condition, the less winemaking influence is required to deliver premium wine that lasts through the ages.
All fruit at Yarra Yering is hand-picked in the cool of the morning, and delivered direct to the winery. Our stainless steel-lined wooden tea chest fermenters were designed by Dr Carrodus to hold just the right amount of fruit to fit into the basket press.
In our underground barrel cellar, the wine completes malolactic fermentation in various French oak barrels.
